Every engagement session tells a different story. For Tori and Chandler, theirs wouldn’t have been complete without the two four-legged family members who happily tagged along for every moment of the evening.
Set along the shoreline on a sunny fall afternoon, their engagement session felt wonderfully relaxed from beginning to end. The warm golden grasses, rocky lakeside cliffs, and open water created the perfect backdrop, but it was the easy laughter and quiet moments between them that made the session feel truly special.
One of my favorite parts of photographing engagement sessions is when couples choose a location that reflects how they actually spend time together. Bringing both of their dogs transformed the session into something that felt less like a photoshoot and more like an evening date where they invited me to tag along. The playful personalities of their pups brought so much life to the images—from happy kisses and wagging tails to quiet moments sitting together overlooking the water.
As the session unfolded, we wandered through tall grasses before making our way down to the rocky shoreline. The changing landscape gave us so much variety while still allowing the evening to feel cohesive and unhurried. Some moments were filled with laughter as the dogs demanded attention, while others became unexpectedly quiet as Tori and Chandler simply held each other and watched the sun settle over the lake.
Golden hour arrived just as we reached the water’s edge, wrapping everything in soft light. The breeze coming across the lake, the reflections on the water, and the sun peeking between them created some of the most timeless portraits of the evening. Rather than focusing on perfectly posed moments, we leaned into movement, conversation, and simply letting them be together.
One of my favorite images from the session is the silhouette of the two of them standing on the rocky point with the sun setting behind them. It’s simple, peaceful, and perfectly captures the feeling of the entire evening. Another favorite has to be the candid moments with their dogs, who undoubtedly stole the show more than once.
Engagement sessions don’t have to be elaborate to be meaningful. Often, the most memorable photographs come from choosing a place you love, bringing along the things—and the pets—that are part of your everyday life, and giving yourselves permission to simply enjoy being together.
Tori and Chandler’s session was the perfect reminder that the best photographs are less about perfect poses and more about preserving a season of life exactly as it feels. I can’t wait to celebrate alongside them on their wedding day.
Whether your favorite place is a quiet lakeside, your family ranch, downtown streets, or somewhere meaningful to your relationship, your engagement session should feel like you. The goal isn’t just beautiful photographs—it’s creating an experience that you’ll remember long after the wedding day has passed. Bringing your dog (or two!) is always encouraged.
